Chestnuts Roasting on the Teller Line…

Wanda Bogs Stuffed Animals

Post written by Misty Wittman – Shiloh Billings

“Chestnuts Roasting on the Teller Line…

I bet you sang that first line to the tune of Nat King Cole. But this isn’t about Nat King Cole or even chestnuts, but more about the teller line at Stockman Bank on Shiloh Road in Billings…and the gal that runs it, Wanda Boggs.

When I was approached about writing a post about Wanda, our Teller Supervisor at the Shiloh Branch, I felt obligated to ask her what she thought.

Naturally, at first she was a little hesitant and unsure of what I would be saying about her. After letting her know all of the amazing things I planned to write about, she agreed and then sang “Chestnuts roasting on the teller line”.

I knew instantly that would be the title.

Stockman Bank Teller Area Christmas

Let’s first go back to when Wanda was a child. She was born in Butte, MT and raised up north in Browning, MT on a ranch with her 12 siblings. Yes, that’s right, 12 siblings isn’t a typo. She was the 2nd youngest of the 13 kids. I’m going to assume that this is how she became so giving and so willing to share.

Wanda grew up and had three children of her own, and now has 2 grandkids as well. She moved to the Billings area in 2004 and started working at Stockman Bank in 2005 as a teller at the King Ave branch from May to October.

In October she transferred to the Shiloh Branch and has been here ever since. This makes Wanda the longest working employee that the Shiloh Branch has. Although that is unique in its own right, what’s even more unique is how Wanda brings joy to customers and employees through her passion to decorate.

Wanda has decorated the teller line at the Shiloh Branch since 2005. She decorates for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Toys for Tots

Currently you can experience a Winter Wonderland and come February you can fall in love, but if you’re anything like me you wait until October for the ghouls and ghosts to come out.

The decorations are always a great conversation starter and, in some ways, it feels like home. We’re all family here after all.

If the time and effort that Wanda puts into making our branch so festive isn’t enough for you to say, “Wanda’s a swell gal”, then her heart should be more than enough to win you over.

Let me explain…

On December 6, 2017 Wanda brings in her yearly donation for Toys for Tots. It’s certainly nice of Wanda and anyone else who donates to different organizations during the holidays.

But what makes this so different is that throughout the year she picks up stuffed animals after holidays and saves them to donate the following year.

This year she didn’t disappoint and donated twenty stuffed animals of all shapes and sizes.

I had the pleasure of helping her unload the bears, rabbits, ducks and other animals, each one getting cuter than the one before. To be honest, I wanted to make a pile of them and dive in!

Wanda even has a “soft” spot for the stuffed animals. She can’t leave even one of the little guys behind at the store or she feels badly knowing that it may not get a good home with a deserving child.

As we talked, I pulled out a tiny bunny and his face was so sweet with eyes so big, I started to cry. Yep, literally tears rolling down my face.

The tears turned to laughter between Wanda, Carol, and I, but the tears kept streaming down. I kept saying, “I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”

I can honestly say that it wasn’t the bunny that actually made me cry. It wasn’t his big eyes and floppy ears. It was that I was overwhelmed by Wanda’s incredibly big heart. Yes, she truly has a heart of gold and she’s going to make several kids happy this holiday season.

I’m honored to know Wanda and get to work with her and experience her giving nature. I love to witness how the little things, like decorating, can bring happiness to people’s lives…including my own. I enjoy her stories of her family and growing up and her laughter is absolutely contagious.

Wanda is more than a “swell gal” in my eyes. She’s family.
